Who said dogs and cats can't get along?  Obie with his feline buddies:

Updated 4/8/11

That’s “Obie” as in “O. B.” as in “Other Buddy” – as you can imagine, GRR gets in quite a few dogs named “Buddy,” so we have to change names to keep them all straight!

“Yet another Buddy” was the e-mail subject line—and we found out about this one thanks to a Hotline call from a concerned (and sharp-eyed) rescuer in San Antonio. She wanted to make sure we knew about a dog at the San Antonio shelter—and added, “oh by the way, do you know about the young male at a little shelter a bit farther north? He’s been posted for weeks now.” No, we didn’t! A quick check of the website turned up “Buddy, age 1, fence jumper and sheep chaser.” And a quick call to the shelter determined that yes, they would love to surrender the young Golden to GRR. The very next day, our volunteer headed out to meet Buddy (now Obie) and take him to his foster home. She found out more details about this lively guy:

Obie seems to have been a country dog his entire life. He was picked up stray in the area, which is really rural. They adopted him out to a lady with school-age kids; he was just fine with the children, but jumped right over their 4-foot stock fence on several occasions. So, the family brought him back and exchanged him “for a dog we can handle.” Over the next month there weren’t any takers; staff says his size was a problem (too big) and his track record as an escape artist didn’t help his cause, either. Obie is very sweet boy who just needs some training—some one-on-one time to help him learn the ropes, and a place where he can feel safe and grounded. Right now he is scared and a little hyper because he just doesn't know where he belongs! He’s a beautiful boy and will blossom into a great Golden Retriever with some help from his foster family.

More updates on Obie as he settles into foster care…
