Prancer

  10-169 Prancer

I fostered 12 different dogs (ten golden retrievers and two Irish setters) in 2010 and of all those dogs; I was only interested in adopting Prancer. He was just that certain extra special, you-know-he’s-the-one, unbelievable dog that only comes around in a rare moment.

He just seemed so attuned to me, having the ability to understand my emotions and provide me with comfort when I was feeling sad. Here I was the foster daddy, supposed to be giving to the dog, and Prancer was the one who had the ability to give so much love and understanding to me.

Even for a Golden, Prancer was extremely gentle and very empathetic; he just knew what you wanted or needed. He understood your emotions, enjoying your happiness or assisting when you felt more melancholy. Moreover, when you wanted him to learn something; all you had to do was just show him once or twice and then he could do it.

At about the time I was considering adopting him, I realized there was something wrong with Prancer. After taking him to the veterinarians, they determined that he had cancer and we needed to euthanize him. I was able to be with him during his final moments and let him know how much he was loved.

Prancer, while only in my life a short time, will always be in my heart. I know he will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for me someday.
