Hammie

Updated 10/14/10

A quick update from Hammie’s foster mom: Hammie  is doing well! When he arrived at the clinic for his intake check-up, we discovered that he needed surgery to fix an inturned eyelid that was causing a lot of irritation and discharge; that’s all taken care of now, and he’s healing nicely.  He is fitting in wonderfully—he’s great with the cats and plays well with his Golden pals Ruby and Ty.  I am trying to keep him quiet as possible, but he is full of spirit.  He does gobble his food, but once I get a bit of weight on him, I am going to put a ball in his bowl to slow him down.  He is smart and sits well and walks great on the leash.  Right now he needs a lot of attention, but he is so sweet that loving him is very easy.

Here are a few pictures of Hammie (in the oh-so-chic blue collar with white pawprints) & his friend Ruby.  Now that he’s been bathed and brushed, he already looks a thousand percent better, and even cuter than before! He does this cute pose where his tongue hangs out of one side of his mouth, so once I am able to capture that I'll send it along.

He may be way, way, WAY underweight (the surrendering family could not afford to feed him),  he may have heartworms—but Hammie didn’t care two cents about his hardships when he saw a friendly new face. He zipped right over, bounced  around, and hopped  up to say “Pleased to meet you!” Look at that sweet face… isn’t that just like a Golden!

At not even two years old, Hammie is already on this third family – but the third time will be the charm, because family #3 is his foster family, who’ll get him healthy and ready for his forever home. Lots of chow (“Feed him!!” said the vet),  grooming, and a few bubble baths will get him looking gorgeous in no time. The heartworm treatment will take a bit longer, but by New Year’s he’ll be all ready to make some lucky family very happy.
