Duncan

Age: 8

Updated 9/20/10

Deep in the wilds of Zilker Park, a squire was looking for adventure. He was on a quest to become a Knight errant (or even a knight stay-at-home, since he had already been “errant”—wandering, that is!— for too long). Duncan was hoping to find a noble person who would recognize his deeds and recommend him for Knighthood. Duncan is fearless and oh, so brave. He sees a potential patron pass by and  goes to greet them in a most courteous manner. Hark, this person is a member of the King’s court. He may be in luck!

Duncan is taken to the palace, where he pleads his case and is granted the right to work as a Knight-in-Training under GRR. As a squire, he is assigned to Sir Ross to learn chivalry, honor  and palace manners. Sir Ross immediately sees promise in this squire. He has all the knightly characteristics: he is courageous, venerable, dutiful, and dedicated.

Squire Duncan is proving to be loyal and willing to take on adventures. Sir Ross has found Duncan to be a hard-working apprentice and he has already performed many noble deeds in his training. As you will see from the pictures, he is receiving help & advice from Sir Bear, Sir Murphy, and Princess Daisy.

Now that Duncan has distinguished himself, he is on his final quest: to help a family find true companionship and love. Then he will be dubbed Sir Duncan.

Please consider offering your kingdom’s love, and make this squire’s dream come true: to become your Knight, both Errant (but only while on lead) and Resident!

Duncan on a Quest

Update: 9/17/10

Shelters are scary places! Just ask Duncan, who was so anxious in his kennel he was shaking from stem to stern. When volunteer Jessica showed up to meet him, he nuzzled up as close as he could get, half-crawled into her lap, & wagged his tail too (even though it was still tucked between his legs). It was clear what he was telling us: “What on earth is going on? First I got lost, then I was in a cage in a truck, and now I’m in a cage here. Take me with you, PLEASE!” The next day he got his wish and motored off to start his new life. “He is incredibly sweet. He loves giving kisses and the more you hug and pet him, the happier he is.”

At the clinic, where he got rave reviews (“What a good dog!”), Duncan got de-fleaed, bathed, manicured (he had LO-O-NG nails) and sent home with ear-cleaning supplies. He also needs to lose a little weight—but even with a few excess pounds, he looks like million dollars. Who could resist that soulful face? And did we mention that he gets along great with other dogs?

More details as we get to know him better.
