Della

updated 10/14/10

Della has had her first HW injection. One down, one to go! Here’s the quick report on this little gal, and it’s all good: Della is a super sweet dog.  She petite and adorable. She wants lovin’ but if you ignore her she ambles away and lies down.  Other than that she doesn't ask for anything (not even to go out at night—OK, occasionally there’s a small problem there! Nothing that attention to those before-bed potty runs won’t take care of, though). In the morning, sometimes she’s so quiet that you almost forget she’s there until she shakes her head and you hear her tags jingle!

She completely won over a friend who came to visit one night. Once she is done with her HW treatment she will fly off the shelf.

Lovely Della and her friend Dawson came to GRR from a loving family who’d recently suffered a house fire. Forced to relocate to an apartment, they were able to bring along their little chihuahua—but there wasn’t room for two big Goldens. While their owners tried to figure out what to do, Della and Dawson remained in the shady yard of the original home. The family dropped by often to give the duo food, water, and attention, but as one scorching-hot day followed another, they grew increasingly anxious to get the dogs out of that yard and back into the cool indoors! An additional problem was that dainty Miss Della is a fence jumper extraordinaire, so she had to spend most of her time in an XL crate to keep her from staging a breakout. That was just too much confinement.

A websearch turned up GRR – and once we were contacted, we mobilized and whisked the dogs into care the very next day.

Weighing in at just 49 pounds, Della is about half the size of her pal, 88-pound Dawson. She is a Golden Houdini, as we mentioned – and a Water Baby, too. Even a deep puddle attracts this girl like a magnet; she just has to have a splash fest!

Unfortunately, Della is heartworm positive, so no swim meets for her for a couple of months as she’s treated for the problem. But that’s OK – this social girl will find plenty of ways to stay entertained as she completes her quiet time!

More details as we get to know Della better…
