Maggie May
My oldest son had been asking for a dog for several years and reminded us of a promise we made to him: “When your little brother goes to Kindergarten, we can get a dog.” Well, little brother finished Kindergarten, and still we had no dog. So, after years of only raising children, my husband and I finally decided we should keep our word to our son and start looking for a four-legged family member. We contacted GRR after getting several recommendations from friends and family. After all, we wanted a young dog, not a puppy, and we wanted a female.
After waiting a little while, we finally got the call about Maggie—an 18-month-old female Golden who had some experience with kids! The owners were expecting a baby and the wife had developed allergies because of Maggie. They thought shaving her might help, but after that didn't work the husband decided they must surrender her. GRR needed to know if we could serve as her foster family since all other foster families were full. Of course that was the one week all summer that we were going on vacation, but after seeing pictures... how do you say no? We said yes and worked out the details with GRR so that we were ready for her the following Wednesday. I was a little nervous as I drove to pick her up at the vet, but she came to me immediately and licked my face. As the assistant helped me out to the car with all of her stuff, Maggie raced to the car and jumped right in as if she had known me for years! I took her to work with me that day so that we could get to know each other. She behaved really well and I kept thinking… how could someone have given up this dog? I’m grateful they did because now our family can’t imagine our lives without her. Here are some pics from Maggie’s new life. Thanks so much GRR!
