Truman

Success Story:

Truman is Terrific,

Truman is a sweet male retriever of unknown age and origin. His love is felt by us and he brings joy to those he meets. Truman's full time favorite job is to be petted scratched and loved by anyone! He prefers socializing with people and dogs rather than walking out and about our neighborhood. Since he enjoys visiting several of my friends houses, he has spruced up his grooming. He has lost five pounds to improve his masculine physique. He stands baths and even teeth brushing . He takes battles in the bathtub, shaking off as much water on us as he has on himself. Walks are brief in the early morning and at dusk, Truman and we are looking forward to the Fall.
Our backyard opens up on some trees, so squirrel patrol is his favorite outside game. This is the only time you will ever hear him bark, besides he figures he only needs one. He almost caught a roadrunner this week, surprised all of us. We were told he enjoys car rides with his head out the window until 40 mph and then he prefers a nap. Truman enjoys playing with a racquetball, tennis ball, or football. as he likes tracking the bouncing balls off walls in the air-conditioned house. The first few days he had chosen our couch for sitting, he quickly realized that was not his seat, but anything else is! Old dogs can learn new tricks or maybe he is recalling his glory days retrieving. At night, a quick word "bedtime" and Truman follows us. It is so special to drift off to sleep with him next to our bed.

Love,
Jeanne, John, and Truman

Truman, age 9

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Truman is a fantastic Golden who was adopted through GRR a little over a year ago. His mom loves him more than anything, but she’s about to move overseas, so she’s asked GRR to rehome her boy. She sends this report to help him find his new forever home:

This here is Truman, like the president.  He’s about nine years old, and though a little slower and a little sleepier, no less excited to be livin’ life!

After getting separated from his original family, Truman has spent the last year with a young lady named Audrey.  Audrey has received a job in Peru, and Truman just isn’t suited for intercontinental travel.  Audrey is heartbroken to be leaving Tru, who is more a part of her family than a pet, and hopes that the right loving and caring family (or person) finds him.

Great with small kids, big kids, babies, and older folks (and everyone in between), as well as other dogs and cats, Truman would be best in a home where he has a pretty regular companion.  The only thing in the world Truman doesn’t love is being alone for too long (he just gets sad and slow).

Truman has never met a person or animal he did not love; he is gentle and patient, particularly with those who are in need of some special attention.  Audrey says that Truman is great friends with her grandmother, who is 83.  The two love to visit, and Truman politely extends his paw to shake whenever he sees her.

Truman is also great with the kids that she babysits (boys and girls ages 3 through 9); he especially likes to lie down next to them while they play, and be petted.  He’s tolerant of little kid-isms like running, yelling and sometimes tugging hair.  Once Truman went camping (which he loved) and met a little girl about 2 years old on the fishing pier.  Her dad asked Audrey if Truman minded if the little girl petted him, and Audrey said not at all.  The little girl tugged on Tru’'s ears and patted his nose, and Truman just sat there patiently while she discovered “big doggies.”

Truman is great with Audrey’s mom’s cat, and other dogs.  He enjoys going to the dog park and meeting new friends.

Truman’s favorite things (in order):

1. Being petted, brushed or given any sort of physical attention, especially belly rubs!

2. Using his paw (gently) to get your attention or say hello

3. Playing fetch, especially with a tennis ball

4. Speaking of which, tennis balls

5. Sleeping  with his head under the bed skirt

6. Stealing a seat on the couch from time to time when no one is looking

Truman”s most favorite thing in the world:

A car ride!  Below 40 mph, Tru likes to stick his head out the window and feel the wind in his fur.  Faster than that, he just likes to watch the scenery :)  Often on walks he will approach random parked cars in expectation of a joy ride.

Truman really is an incredible and incredibly loving dog.  With the right family who is able to give him enough companionship, he will continue to be so happy and make your life even happier, too!  He’s one of a kind!
