Queso

Updated 7/19/10

Hello.  I'm Queso.  Or Bandit, or Bandana... lately it's been Peanut.  As you can tell, the kids like to rename me regularly but I don't care, because the kids are awesome and I am just happy to be around people. I don’t even mind playing dress-up and wearing a rose behind my ear!  I don't like being alone and will just bark a couple loud barks to get your attention to get me in the same room as you.  However, if I'm in my kennel, I do great and you won't hear a peep out of me.  I am a very good inside dog because I can hold it  for a long time before I have to go potty and will never have accidents in our house.

We have some kittens here and they are a lot of fun.  They're always climbing all over me and hanging off my tail.  But the adult cat is another story.  He doesn't like me too much and I mind my own business until he decides he wants to play chase.  When he runs, I just can't help but chase after him!

There's also another puppy here.  We have a blast playing and I'm very gentle with him because I know I'm much bigger than he is.  He's my BFF!

In addition to my many other virtues and skills I am also an accomplished thief.  Before they even know it I have taken the food off the counter and run with it!  Steak is my favorite. Unfortunately my family isn’t real impressed with this particular skill of mine.  They call it a “bad habit” instead.  But I just can't help myself!  I'm always really sorry afterwards though.

I came to GRR with heartworms but  the doctors are fixing that.  I just had my second treatment and will be ready for my new home around the middle of August. That is soon! I'm so excited.  I am a sweet boy and love to love everyone and can't wait to meet my forever family!

“Found running loose Friday, May 7th on the highway. Covered in burrs, no collar, no tags, severely matted, caked in dirt and mud.  Passing driver opened the car door and he jumped right in. She took him to the vet and he’s positive for heartworms and hookworms. Scanned for chip and called all of the shelters including non-profits but did not find anyone who had lost a dog. She is really becoming attached to him but is not in a position to handle his heartworm treatment.”

The Good Samaritan named her friendly foundling “Lucky,” which he certainly is! His official GRR name, though, is “Queso” -- to avoid confusion at the vet’s with other dogs of the same name. And his foster family calls him “Bandit”! By any name, this 4-year-old is a nice guy who should be done with his heartworm treatment and ready for a new home by  late summer. Stay tuned…
