Jupiter
What would happen if the mighty planet Jupiter suddenly abandoned its normal orbit and landed in Central Texas? “Earth shattering” in the literal sense would describe that scenario! Luckily, doggie Jupiter’s touchdown in San Antonio has barely caused a ripple—he’s that sweet and easygoing—but nonetheless, his life now is so different from the way it started out that he probably does feel like he’s in a different orbit… maybe even a whole new universe.
Jupiter came to us from way down south, almost all the way to Mexico, where he was found wandering in a field—skinny, undernourished, suffering from mange, and “wearing” a collar that had grown right into his skin (it clearly hadn’t been changed since puppyhood). He was in such bad shape that Animal Control labled him “unadoptable” and set a euthanasia date. But then a kind lady spotted him, saw his potential, and took him home. What a lucky break for the ailing stray! She had him neutered, had the ingrown collar removed and the wounds cleaned, treated him for mange, and gave him lots of love while she looked for help in finding him a wonderful new home. And that’s how Jupiter came to GRR.
Just one year old, Jupiter is the sweetest boy you’d ever want to meet. He is tall and gorgeous, and his soft brown eyes tell you how grateful he is to be in a real home with people who love him. And he just loves people in return! -- he will follow you around the house from room to room just to be near you, and his favorite pastime is cuddling up beside you on the couch, giving the cutest little sighs and whimpers of contentment & relaxation. “Ah, this is the life!” He is housetrained and doesn’t jump at all, and he’s very smart—he’s learning commands such as SIT and STAY, and he’d be a superstar in obedience class.
Jupiter lives with three other dogs and gets along great with everyone, just as if he’d been here forever. He doesn’t try to be the boss of anyone. Even mealtimes are easy as he doesn’t bother the other dogs when they eat. He is slowly gaining weight—he needs it!—but because of his hungry past, he will take advantage of any food left on a coffee table or even in your hand. He is learning that this is a no-no, however. He loves to play ball but hasn’t learned to bring it back yet. He also loves to chew bones and stuffies… but of course, he is just a puppy and is still learning that some things are not meant to be chewed. You’ll have to be diligent in picking things up—typical puppy precautions.
Jupiter loves children, but because he’s still young and very large and doesn’t quite realize just how big he is, slightly older kids would be better for him. And he would certainly take advantage of little ones walking around with food as he is quite the opportunist!
Unfortunately, beautiful Jupiter has hip dysplasia—not an uncommon problem in Goldens. He is doing fine now and shows no symptoms other than a bunny hop when he runs. The vets feel he does not need to have surgery now, but he may need it in future… or then again, he may not! In the meantime we have him on glucosamine and Syn-Flex, and he will need to stay on that forever.
Do you have room in your home and your heart for a special handsome young Golden who wants nothing more than to be loved and to love back? If so, Jupiter is the boy for you, and we promise that he will bring celestial light and warmth to your home! They don’t come any better than this little boy.
