Madonna

Update: 01/20/10

Wonderful Madonna has recovered from the “flu” she apparently contracted during her stay at the shelter. Now that she’s feeling tip-top, we have learned that she runs well despite her excess poundage—although she has broken the “80” barrier and is down to 79 pounds. Just about 10 more to go!

Madonna loves to travel; she sits calmly and looks out the window. Grooming sessions are another favorite; she really enjoys being brushed and combed.

This happy girl is a typical active young Golden  with an outgoing personality. She jumps up a bit when she’s excited (as when meeting a new friend), but we’re working on that. She’s perfectly housetrained, and crate-trained, too. She plays well with our Golden Abby, and with our neighbor’s fox terrier. She’s excellent on lead and loves the walks we take throughout the day, especially since they afford her the opportunity to meet new people  and new dogs of all shapes and sizes. At the vet’s, she either ignores cats or—in the case of the clinic kitty (who entered the exam room while Madonna was getting her check-up!)—offers loving attention.

Madonna is a sweet gal with lotsa love for all.

Just a few days into the New Year, the shelter called one of our volunteers, who promptly sent off an e-mail: “Cheryl just rang me and wants GRR to come see a female GR they have there.  She was found as a stray, and they have named her ‘Madonna.’ They really like her! Sweet girl, good with other dogs, heartworm negative. She’s been there since December 23. They had an adoptive home that just backed out due to family circumstances, so they want GRR to take her pronto to make room at the shelter. Sorry, I know you are beyond swamped, but she sounds like a peach.”

Madonna lived up to her PR: absolutely beautiful, sweet, and lovable. And cultured! “Madonna traveled to the vet’s like a pro, enjoying classical music provided by KFMA for the entire trip.” When she made her grand entrance into the clinic, everyone in the waiting room fell madly in love with her, and the feeling seemed to be mutual. And even though no woman really likes to get on the scales, Madonna climbed right on and smiled through it all. (At around 80 pounds, she’s decidedly tubby—but already slimming down.)

Once in her foster home, Madonna had a little setback—she had likely been exposed to something at the shelter, and began to cough, then run a fever, then lose her energy and appetite. A few more trips to the vet followed, but now we’re happy to report that, after a course of several antibiotics, she’s definitely getting her bounce back. As soon as we’re sure she’s fully recovered, this lovely girl will be ready to find her forever home.
