Vanna
Vanna’s incision
(where an unsightly lump was removed from her noggin) is healling well. She sat
so nicely while I photographed her in the bluebonnets!
She is a gorgeous girl & has lost another pound.

E-mail to our intake volunteers John & Liz, Feb. 26: “We just received word that
the shelter has 2 Goldens they picked up as strays & their hold time is up
tomorrow at 9 AM. There is a 2-year-old male they are calling Bob Barker and
an 8-year-old female they are calling Vanna. Would you be available to meet and
get photos of these 2?”
No sooner said than done! Both dogs, who apparently had been hitch-hiking down the road with each other, got rave reviews. Boisterous-Bob-the-Barker, in fact, seemed tailor-made for a family on our wait list, so he waltzed right into his forever home. His pal Vanna is in her foster home now—after a few days at the vet for some cosmetic surgery to remove a large and most unsightly but entirely benign lump on her noggin. (This explains her trendy “reverse mohawk” hairdo – bald in the middle, furry on the sides.)
Chubby Vanna is excellent with other dogs of all ages—and quite the femme fatale where older boy Goldens are concerned! She spent some time at Margo’s house, where Thunder, age 13, immediately fell under her spell: “Thunder spent lots of time washing Vanna's head & incision. He tried to hump her twice (pretty silly of him, since he is so elderly & small), and Vanna gave a loud roar each time... you should have seen Old Thunder backpedal! He learned his lesson & took care to follow Vanna's rules thereafter.” Upon arriving in her longer-term foster home, she promptly entranced Mason, age 9: “As soon as he noticed Vanna, he STRUTTED over and it was instant love. Last night he did not want to sleep on the bed with Mom. He wanted to be down beside Vanna. So funny.”
Other great things about Vanna:
*She’s excellent in the car, quiet, well-behaved & relaxed.
*Vanna is wonderful in the house. She enjoys hanging out with the humans wherever they may be – in the office, watching TV in the living room, supervising meal preparation.
*She loves walks! She will make sure you get your daily dose of exercise.
*She is not a destroyer or chewer or food swiper. She DOES love her meals (a little too much, as she needs to lose about 13 pounds).
*She sleeps through the night.
*She likes being brushed. She was patient when having lots of mats cut out & having her shaggy ears trimmed.
Vivacious Vanna would love a home with lots of human companionship, and she likes other dogs, too. Cats? We would have to say NO CATS—she was intensely interested in the clinic’s cats, & we all think she would chase cats.
So… who’s up for a chubby, healthy, friendly, social gal who would love to share in the family fun and go out for walks and car rides? Vanna is your girl!
