This is our
beautiful adopted Golden, Rio. He came to us on Valentines Day 2010 with the
name Whittles and we felt since he was rescued from a shelter in the Rio
Grande Valley, Rio would be a more appropriate name for him! We're enjoying
him so much and he has become an important member of our family. Rio enjoys
playing with our little, elderly dog -Pip-sometimes he's a little bit too
loud. When Pip gets his fill of Rio, he goes and hides under the table. He
just doesn't have as much energy as a teenage Golden! He's gotten to know our
cats and if they don't run from him, everything is just fine, but if they
decide to run, it's very hard for Rio to resist the temptation, but we're
working on it.
His favorite
activities are fetching the ball-over and over and over and standing on the
steps of our pool and cooling his feet off from all the running. He loves
dropping the balls in the pool and trying to get them out. He's nearly fallen
in several times. Don't know if he's a swimmer yet, but when the water warms
up enough for us humans to go in, we'll find out!! The cold water doesn't seem
to bother him at all.
We're working with
Cara at "Buddy's Chance" to correct his reactive behavior to other dogs.
Hopefully he'll be able to host some foster Golden friends at our house when
this behavior gets corrected. After losing our 5 yr old Golden, Callie, to
cancer in January, we love having Rio. A house is very quiet and lonesome
without a happy Golden! Thanks Gold Ribbon Rescue for the wonderful things
your organization does for these great dogs. Hope we can help the organization
out in the future.
